Loran’s Legacy Home from the Heart Scholarship

This scholarship is given in memory of Loran Mackenzie Martin and is only available to Burlington High School seniors.

Loran was known for her caring, outgoing spirit, and sense of humor. She showed great courage and determination, remaining positive while battling the effects of Friedreich’s Ataxia and striving to remain active, working, and independent.
The only child of teachers Tim Martin and Theresa Martin, Loran loved working and visiting with people of all ages – especially children. Loran Mackenzie Martin was a proud lifelong Burlington resident and a 2005 Burlington High School graduate. She received her Associate of Science degree in Computer Program Design and Development from Flint Hills Technical College and was employed by USD 244 21st CCLC program and Recreation Center for many years.
The foremost criteria for Loran’s Legacy Scholarship shall be the recipient bears characteristics like Loran’s: caring, friendly, determined, and independent. Other criterion will include financial need and service to others.

**The number of scholarships and amount is to be determined. Each scholarship shall be a minimum of $500.

To apply:

• Write a brief essay on how, based on the above-listed criteria, you see yourself deserving of this scholarship.
• If applicable, include a description of your personal connection and/or a memory of Loran.
• Please provide a senior picture with the application.
